Put on…!

Wars, battles, fights, struggles aren’t interesting but we can’t deny we have them…..

Many of us have watched a lot of super-hero movies when we were much younger, we even watch some of them even now. We know this heroes by their actions, what they wear, what they put on. We have also watched ancient movies were there are lots of wars and there is always the winning side. Even in sports, there is always a winning side; that’s why many have favorite clubs and are devoted to such. Generally, we have different wears for different occasions.

Warriors have their uniforms, soldiers and heroes inclusive. They put on this when they go for battles or wars just so they are prepared. I have always imagined just when I would have to take pictures having their looks, such boldness and then those clothes….lol. By now, we can say we already know the word ‘Armour’.

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil

Paul has used soldier or warrior stories many times when he teaches what kind of battles we face as Christians. The Bible already shows we are victorious in Christ but how do we live our lives to prove this? Many times we’ve read and heard these words ‘be strong, stand fast, stand firm, endure, be on guard, watch, cast down, do not fear, stand!’ These are some of the attributes of warriors or soldiers.

To many of us, this isn’t reality. Even if we imagine ourselves being heroes with this attributes, it’s still seem so difficult. Wearing the ‘Armour’ is still a problem but we are asked to put it on. We give up and we say there is no true victory when it’s already available.

2 corinthians 2;14
Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ,
and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

Truth is truth regardless of how we feel and how we think. We should be ever ready; concerning life matters and troubles; when the devil roars like a lion that he’s not. When sicknesses, offences, addictions, failures and so on; wants to set us back. We are told to put on. We must renew. We must so learn Christ.

"Long-lasting victory can never be separated
from a long-lasting stand on the foundation of the cross"
- Watchman Nee

Put on the armour of God and it’s not enough till you put on the whole of it. Warriors have weapons and we also do too. We don’t go unprepared for battles. Extra bullets, extra arrows, extras, you need all the extras. One verse is not enough not even a chapter to feel satisfied, study and know the word of God well so you know how to use the sword well. Keep at it and practice because victory in Christ was completed.

Ephesians 4:23-24
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

The devil is never at ease, he never stops, he moves so we can’t wait. Keep moving. Ensuring also that many others move along with you.

We must put on truth, put on his righteousness, our feet should be swift to preach the gospel of peace as Christ came to preach peace. We must put on the faith which is our shield against the devil’s fiery darts. Salvation is great therefore, say the word, its your sword, it offends him, it offends them. Pray, pray like it’s a war because it is. Prove your victory boldly.

Soldiers and warriors are bold in battle we must be in our prayers, in our speaking, perspectives and perceptions must change, strongholds are to be pulled down, attributes which makes you less of a warrior should be cast down.

2 corinthians 10: 4-5
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty
through God to the pulling down of strong holds;).
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

A soldier obeys orders, follows instructions and seeks to please his master, a soldier is devoted to the people so is a warrior, a hero and any other supernatural being you can think of. A necessity is laid upon them to do what is required because they are exceptional. As Christians, we are so much more so we have to put on. We are instructed to put on.

What have we Bibles for, ministers and preaching for, if we mean not to furnish ourselves by them with armour for the evil day?

The main thing: The foundation

gray concrete pillars
What pulls you together?
1 Corinthians 3: 11
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Many times we face situations, circumstances, we feel things and we have questions. We fall apart and we start again, sometimes we break down and we get up again. We can hear that motivational talk and we fight back, after all ‘What is life?’ There is hope we say to ourselves. Sometimes we show inconsistencies and then again, we appear to be consistent. We always have questions….unanswered questions that can only be answered in the “What’s your foundation?” question.

How do you pull through? What holds you? Your walls? Did you build them yourself? Do you have the capacity to?

We see the frailty in the human nature, the weakness, the fatigue, the pain, the sickness, the helplessness and name it. Man needs help. We need a foundation. To build a foundation, there needs to be a ‘digging deep’ and even more to make a strong one. Where a foundation is shallow, there can’t be a strong building.

According to John Bevere;

"Storms reveal the strength of your foundation"

There was a man who was and its still being called a Rock, a Chief corner stone, a Sure foundation, a firm foundation. The most interesting thing is, that man was also God. We may already know his name. A man named Isaiah once prophesied:

Isaiah 28: 16

Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone,
A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.
He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

Man never had the capacity to build on his own, he needed something else, she needed something else, the help, the foundation which is Jesus.

…It’s been my observation that those who believe in something greater than themselves tend to be more resilient than those who only believe in what they see.

George S. Everly, Jr, PhD, ABPP

Many times we build our walls on shallow things, our perceptions, our thoughts, our frailty, what we learnt, what we know but there’s much more. There is still a sure and a firm foundation.

Some of us need to ask ourselves basic questions. What is our foundation? and more so, What am I building? There’s too much focus on the walls, know your foundation. If you have the right one, then, build well. ‘…Be careful how you build’. Do this words sound familiar?

Read the story below!

These walls

“My defense, my strength; my walls…

They say the world is a battle place

Yeah, its also true, that its a small world

We meet new people but sometimes we meet the same people over again.

And sometimes many people be getting on your nerves

They are just different, they are just different from you.

So you build them walls

Now, it’s you against the world

You thought of them so small so you raised your walls so high

I don’t want them small people climbing through

I don’t even want them looking through

I am comfortable in my own shell, my own space

They threw stones and slammed on my gates, they beat on my walls

My walls, its my walls!

It’s been all about me, yes, it’s still all about me

My walls shook, even when I was careful, they still shook

They were not strong enough

Because I built them up myself; for myself.

I forgot to say, I lied low within so…

My walls mirrored me

I became like the small men, the small men I hated

Those I couldn’t trust, I took on their qualities,

Till I became defenseless,

It was just a matter of time.

Because they were my walls; they were my walls”

Remember to build with care!

The Mind

You’ve been in that space for too long, many stories you grew up with has formed you, formed your supposed personality. What you can do and what you can’t are determined by people around you. Is that really what you want? Is that really all you’ve got?

No! Of course not. The mind tends to store information from the previous and wants us to live that in the present so it becomes set. It becomes a mindset. But guess what? It can be removed. ‘I am just lazy can be removed’

‘If I get angry ehn’….can be removed. We know how that ends😄. Many times the mind needs renewal.

Romans 12:2:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will’

The mind is not always our true self because it takes from the environment, from situations. It judges with information it has received, it experienced, it saw, consistent ones. But we are much more! We are always above if we redirect our thinking pattern and allow change.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, e whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Its no lie that its yet still a battle but speaking can pull wrong thoughts down, affirmations can pull stronghold down. Words are powerful and that’s what we do. We speak them. We can also write them!

“…words are in a way our godly sharing in the work of creation, and the speaking and writing of words is at once the most human and the most holy business we engage in.” ~ Frederick Buechner

We don’t think them. We write and we speak. We must say what we believe, what we want and what we choose till our mind space accepts it, till our mind gets to believe it.
